The Stroiter Mühle is the southernmost windmill in Lower Saxony.
It is the highest windmill in southern Lower Saxony (approx. 240 m above sea level) and
is located in the district of Northeim near Einbeck east of the district of Stroit on an exposed elevation in the Leinebergland between the Hils mountain range to the west and the Selter mountain range to the east.
The history of the windmill:
- 1842: before miller Grote from Ahlshausen submitted an application to the Duke of Brunswick to build a mill on the Rotenberge near Stroit, the grain had to be taken to the villages of Voldagsen or Greene for grinding
- Construction of a trestle windmill by miller Grote after approval from the ministry in Brunswick
- 1849: the windmill burned down and a new mill was built immediately
- 1850: the new hooded windmill (gallery Dutchman) made of solid bricks was completed, which had two grain grinding gears and an oil and barley gear
- Miller Grote had gotten heavily into debt by building the mill and disappeared to America; the mill changed hands several times from this point on
- 1930: the mill operated with an electric motor instead of wind
- around 1960:operation of the mill was discontinued as the miller no longer had any work and it had been threatened by decay ever since
