Cestnik was born in Einbeck in 1921 and died in 2011. Between 1958 and 2001, he had exhibitions in Frankfurt, Munich, Thiais / Paris, Dortmund and Aachen, for example.
When his triptych "Crucifixion" was completed in 1969, foreign and Einbeck business people and citizens of the town bought Cestnik's painting and donated it to the Einbeck market church parish. Today, the painting can be viewed in the market church in Einbeck.
