The Blankschmiede Neimke in Dassel is a cultural monument and is home to a hammer mill.
The water-powered hammer mill was founded in Dassel as early as 1727. Under the name "Neimke", it was passed down in the male line for eight generations and was widely known in southern Lower Saxony for its use of water power in production.
According to Heinrich Neimke, the last master blacksmith of the bright forge, the traditional craft in his old forge was significant in terms of technical history and worth preserving in the old facility. After his death in 1988, the citizens of Dassel wanted to preserve the technically significant facility and founded the Förderverein Blankschmiede Neimke.
Nowadays the building has been preserved as a unique technical cultural monument in southern Lower Saxony due to restoration, reconstruction and a renewal of the water management system. For visitors, it is an imposing experience.
Museum tours are offered on the subject of water technology and mill technology. There are also forging demonstrations.
The blank forging café offers homemade cakes and pastries, coffee and tea as well as cold drinks.
