Holtershausen

The small village of Holtershausen is located in a sheltered valley on the north side of the Hube mountain range and has approx. 57 inhabitants (as of 02.01.2024). This makes the village one of the smallest villages in southern Lower Saxony and its location makes it a popular destination for many hikers who want to explore the region.

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1148 as "Haholdeshusen".

Culture and sights:

• Above Holtershausen starts on the Lietberg, from which you have a beautiful overlook of the surrounding area, the so-called Mönchelieth.A display board there recalls the history of the village and the significance of Mönchelieth in earlier times. The square,which  a.  features a large wooden cross, is also the site of regular services. 
• Remains of a historic stonework can be found in the village center. This is documented in the year 1385. An information board on site explains the former function of the stoneworks.

Nature:

• The region around the district is ideal for beautiful hikes. The  wanderweg"Auf den Spuren der Mönche" from Holtershausen towards Hube / Märchenwald offers guests a short journey through time and enchants with a beautiful view over the region.

In Holtershausen, the Kultur- und Heimatverein Holtershausen e.V. and the volunteer fire department as cultural sponsors ensure varied events such as the Easter bonfire or the potato festival.
