News of archaeological excavations: 2022/2033

Until now, it was assumed that the settlement mentioned in 1203 was located 600 to 800 m northeast of the present-day estate, but an archaeological excavation has now located medieval Rotenkirchen directly northwest of the estate buildings. In addition to a well made of field stones, postholes were also found, which can be interpreted as the remains of buildings. Finds from numerous settlement pits date from the late 11th early 12th to the 14th/15th century, mainly through pottery finds, and thus even several decades before the construction of the Grubenhagen castle complex.
