Haus von Claus Ebbrecht

Short facts

  • Einbeck

The house of baker Claus Ebbrecht convinces with many small details and sophistication.

A special feature is the house at No. 31 Tiedexer Straße, which was built in 1571 by Claus Ebbrecht against the city wall, specifically against the remains of the gate tower of the Tiedexer Tor. The pretzel in a fan-shaped rosette indicates that it was owned by a baker. In 1964, part of the first floor and the tower wall were removed and a passageway was created to the Tiedexer Tor and Bäckerwall.
The inscription: Ick Claves Ebbrecht/Hebbe Bwen Latenn/DVT HVS im 1571 IAR"  (I Claus Ebbrecht had this house built in 1571). The wealthy Ebbrecht from Einbeck owned several houses in Einbeck, he sold this small house again in 1585.

The three-line inscription is located on a beam decorated with dew ribbons between the basement and the first upper floor above the pedestrian passageway. Above the inscription are half fan rosettes
