Prof. Dr. h. c. Heinrich Friedrich Karl Mackensen was born on 08.04.1866 in Greene. He was a German painter and is an honorary citizen of Greene. He was also a co-founder of the Worpswede artists' colony. More information about this can be found at the Greene Heritage Society (here).
