Winterquartier Zirkus Charles Knie

Short facts

  • Einbeck

The Charles Knie Circus is one of the three largest circuses in Germany.

The Circus Charles Knie is based in the Einbeck district of Volksen, which also serves as its winter quarters. The half-timbered house on an old estate dating back to 1870 now serves as an office for the circus. In addition to the house, there are stables, pastures, a large yard and vehicle sheds on the large grounds in Volksen. However, these are not open to the public, except during an event.

The winter quarters host various varied major events, such as the annual open day, Circus Land with summer Variété or the Winter Wonderland (was planned for winter 2020, but shows and visits had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic).

More information about the circus:
The circus was founded in 1995 by Dorina and Charles Knie, the latter descending from the Knie circus dynasty founded in Austria in 1806. In the early days, the circus became famous for its magical performances and exciting animal acts. In 2006, Charles Knie sold his circus to the wholesale and foreign trade merchant Sascha Melnjak. The former provincial circus has since developed into one of the most popular large circuses in Europe. Every year, almost 100 employees, over 100 animals and more than 200 vehicles travel to around 50 cities in Germany.
