The world theater in Einbeck - since 1910!
From the history of an old cinema
Einbeck - The "Welttheater" movie theater in Einbeck was one of the first cinemas in Germany to open its doors back in 1910.
It was founded by Ernst Heidelberg Sen. The cinema pioneer from Lower Saxony was a long-time board member and honorary member of the trade association of movie theaters in northern Germany and worked in the film industry for over 40 years.
In addition to the Einbecker Haus, he also ran the "Eden Theater" cinema in Göttingen from 1916 and the "Capitol" in Hanover in the 1920s. The "Welttheater" in Einbeck looks back on a long tradition: it started with 150 seats, which was to increase to 800 seats in the following "cinema" years! An enormous number of seats for a cinema in a small town in southern Lower Saxony.
The movie theater survived crises and changes of ownership and remained open in Einbeck, Marktplatz 20, until 2019. This year, the traditional cinema had to close for three months until the current owner, Youssef Omeirat, took over the "Welttheater". Today, the Einbeck cinema offers the latest film productions every day.
A particular highlight is the "Filmkunst in Einbeck". Outstanding films are shown every Monday at 8 pm, because "you can only experience film in the cinema"! With its imposing staircase and wonderfully "plush" cinema auditorium, the Welttheater in Einbeck is still worth a visit today.
A small snack bar with popcorn and other "movie-worthy" treats is also available.
Today, the movie theater seats 226 viewers.
Since 2011, the cinema technology has been digital and films can also be shown in 3D quality. You can see the great commitment with which the current cinema owner Youssef Omeirat runs "his" Welttheater.
Clearly recommended for Einbeck tourists and of course also "locals": the Welttheater cinema in the heart of the city, with its varied program, is a must-see. (Rita Heise)
