Iber

Short facts

  • Einbeck

Iber,  the southernmost district of the town of Einbeck, lies on the Ahlsburg mountain range, 10 km away.

The village of Iber lies on the slope of the Iberg, a part of the Grubenhagen mountains, which are now known as Ahlsburg. Due to its location, Iber is not directly affected by the cold air currents flowing through the lower Leine valley. To the east, a tongue of forest lies higher up and a rise in the ground protects against the north wind.

According to documentary sources, Iber is one of the oldest villages in the Einbeck area. It is crossed by the L543 and has 305 inhabitants (as of 02.01.2024).

Culture and sights

  • The ev.Church of St. Johannis is located in the center, surrounded by the oldest houses in the village.
  • The parish of Iber is in possession of the art-historically significant so-called Niello chalice, a communion chalice from around 1180. The chalice is on permanent loan to the Kestner Museum in Hanover.
